Black History Month RED Presentation at MLK

RED Supervisor Dajne Lacy, MSW, from MLK organized a phenomenal Black History Month celebration for our RED Program students, and the impact was undeniable.

This was more than just a program on the calendar. It was an opportunity for students to connect with leaders from their own community, hear real stories of perseverance and success. They saw what is possible when passion meets purpose.

We are incredibly grateful to the community members who gave their time and poured into our students: Mrs. Evon Ervin, deputy director of Mohawk Valley Community Action; Jesenia Wright of ICAN; Wesley Jackson of the Utica Police Department; Shalon Lanae of Spectrum News; Cymil Hamilton and Curtis Lee of Hillside; Nigel Dunkley of Hoopers Rehab; Doneilous King of SUNY Polytechnic Institute and D King Events; and Keith Brown, representing Scott Grates State Farm Agency and Love Living Local 315.

Thank you as well to our dedicated staff and colleagues who consistently go above and beyond, our amazing cooks and Hot Off The Brick for providing delicious pizza for the event.

When students see leaders who look like them and share similar roots, it leaves a lasting impact. Representation matters. Community matters. And moments like this remind our students that their goals are within reach.

Happy Black History Month!
